Tube strike misinformation

A fading nation's press will work overtime to maintain the illusion of old glories. Here, the London Evening Standard works itself up into a frenzy about "resourceful" Londoners virtually crawling through the streets on their stomachs (on the anniversary of the Blitz, mind you!) to "beat" the Tube strike. So what does someone not from here see? A bunch of losers who prefer not to face reality trying to get around a paralyzed city while acting like nothing is wrong, all is wonderful.

Graduating . . . downward

As the UK slides out of the developed world and finds its natural position as a middle-income country, it begins to match the college graduation rates of that group of peers. It is no longer able to compete with the world's leading societies and economies.

So how is BA doing? Can you think of any other major airline with an international strategy based on long-haul flights from an airport (London City) with a runway too short for long-haul flights? Everything has to land and re-fuel in Ireland -- like in the 1950s!
